Chaplains visit shops to support staff and managers. Usually this is in a specific area – eg a particular High St, Shopping District or Shopping Centre. Access is negotiated with the local shop manager or shopping district management.

Chaplains can take part in local ‘High St’ committees to oversee the flourishing of the shopping district. They also connect those shopping areas with the local faith communities.

“It’s such a privilege, but also very rewarding, to be a retail chaplain. I work with shop assistants, retail managers, whose working lives are spent serving people and often getting abuse. As a chaplain I can share their burdens, listen to their stories and show them the love of Christ – sometimes the only kind words they will hear during the day.” Andrew Green
